It's reported that David Varney, the chairman of mobile company mmo2, will leave next July. He joined three years ago to help demerge the mobile phone business from British Telecom.

Vodafone to renew Man Utd sponsorship

Today's edition of The Guardian reports that Vodafone is expected to announce the signing of a new four-year sponsorship deal with Manchester United. The deal is said to be worth £36m, which is £6m more than the initial deal.

Bluejacking for marketers

PC Pro magazine is reporting that a UK PR company has published a white paper explaining how bluejacking can be used as a promotional medium. It notes that one company, TagText, has created cartoon characters in the hope that phone users will begin sending them to each other.

Orange to refund MMS error

Orange has told 210,000 customers that they'll be refunded after accidentally charging them for receiving a picture message promoting its own messaging service.
