Unhappy new year for Swedish thief
2006 starts with some impressive incompetence from a thief in Sweden. The man, who had stolen a mobile phone, made his first mistake by answering it when police called. He then failed to end the call and was hear to curse the late arrival of a taxi taking him to Kalix, in the north of the country. Police intercepted the taxi and arrested him.

American teenagers caught using picture messages to sell drugs
A group of teenagers in Massachusetts have been arrested after using MMS - the picture message facility on mobile phones - to sell marijuana. The scheme was discovered after a parent saw an incriminating photo on their child's mobile and told police, who located the drug sellers by tracking their mobile phones.

Predictions for 2006
Trade newspaper Mobile offers a list of predictions for industry trends in 2006. They include mobile networks cutting costs and cutting prices but offering more chargeable services. In particular, the cost of making calls is expected to drop over the next year or so.
