Tesco "hasn't confirmed" 100 new mobile stores

MobileToday.co.uk, which reported that Tesco was planning to open 100 new mobile phone shops, now says the retailer has contacted it to point out that the plans haven't been confirmed.

Mobile phones: from pink to Prada

BBC Asian Network has just broadcast an interview with Mark Bridge from The Fonecast - it's a 5-minute chat about mobile phone fashion, with "pink" being out and "Prada" being in.

Mobile music downloads up 33% in Japan

Mobile phones are still the preferred medium for downloading music in Japan, according to a report by Billboard. 344.1 million mobile music downloads took place in 2006, compared with only 23 million PC-based downloads. That's despite a 172% increase in PC downloads (and 'just' a 33% increase in mobile downloads). The figures include ringtones, singles and albums.

O2 and T-Mobile considering 3G link-up

Following Vodafone's network-sharing agreement with Orange (and Ofcom's reminder about 3G coverage), O2 has said that it's looking at network sharing as well. It has previously held discussions with T-Mobile, but ended them because of regulatory concerns.

Vodafone wins sustainability reporting award

Vodafone has won "Best Report" from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants at their UK Awards for Sustainability Reporting. Cellular-News.com says Vodafone was praised for the way it had explored various issues including responsible usage and the impact of mobile phones on health.

Nokia named as Palm suitor

Wireless news site Unstrung.com has suggested that Nokia is interested in buying PDA manufacturer Palm, following previous reports that Microsoft and Motorola could be interested. Palm shares increased in value by almost 11% on Friday.
