Ofcom publishes in-flight mobile guide

Telecomms regulator Ofcom has published a summary of views about mobile phone use on aircraft. It concludes that most people are in favour, although the CAA will need to make final decisions about aircraft safety and security.

I once sat next to a muppet on a Hercules aircraft using his mobile. It was taken from him and thrown out the window as it could have set off the flares and killed the groundcrew.

Civil aircraft should be OK though.

I think the guy on the Hercules was lucky not to follow his phone through the window, given the circumstances. It'll be interesting to see how passengers can be assured that airborne mobile phone use is safe (in conjunction with the right onboard equipment) when they've been told for the last 20 years that it isn't.
